DEXRON-VI can be used in any proportion in past model vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, in place of DEXRON-III (for instance, topping off the fluid in the event of a repair or fluid change). DEXRON-VI is also compatible with any former version of DEXRON for use in automatic transmissions.

Is DEXRON II still available?
Dexron, Dexron II, IID, and Dexron IIE—these are the original GM Dexron ATFs and are no longer licensed by the company, having been superseded by Dexron III, which has now itself been superseded by Dexron VI. The difference between Dexron, II, and IIE was mostly in the oxidation inhibitors.
Is Dex Merc the same as dexron VI?
Dex/Merc would be fine. Dexron VI is listed by GM as backward compatible, but is thinner than original Dexron III. I’d use the Dex/Merc myself.
Can you mix transmission fluids?
