What is tFAW RAM?
tFAW: Four Activate Window. The amount of time in which four row activations can occur within the same rank. Pretty self explanatory, if the IMC needs to access four different rows of memory within one rank of a DIMM, it will take tFAW cycles to do so.
What is tRC in RAM?
tRC (Bank Cycle Time) – [Auto, 1 ~ 63] This is arguably one of the most important timings when it comes to memory performance with NVIDIA chipsets. The rule when it comes to tRC is you should set it no lower than tCL + tRAS + 2.
How is tRAS calculated?
Row Active Time (tRAS): In SDRAM modules, it is simply tRCD + CL. Otherwise, approximately equal to tRCD + 2×CL.” Also known as Activate to Precharge Delay or Minimum RAS Active Time. The first equation (for SDRAM) is the relevant one here, but it should be more than that.
What should tRFC be set to?
tRFC does not need to have specific values. You can put any number in you want (that is high enough for proper operation). tRFC controls how long a given row of memory cells are recharged in a refresh cycle (how much time is allowed to recharge their tiny capacitors).
How do I adjust my RAM timings?
Start with making sure you’re on the latest BIOS version for your motherboard, go manual(as opposed to X.M.P) set voltage to 1.4v frequency to 3600MHz, timings at 18 on all fronts, then tighten them gradually one parameter at a time. Run memtest then test for stability.
What is tRFC?
tRFC (row refresh) is something that must occur in absolute time (ns), but must be expressed in cycle time, as frequency is the method of determining absolute time. If you double your memory’s speed, for example, the cycle time would have to double, but the absolute time would remain constant.
What are the 4 numbers on RAM?
tRAS. Timings are most commonly broken down to the four values: CAS Latency (CL), Row Column Delay (tRCD), Row Precharge Time (tRP), and Row Active Time (tRAS).
Does tRFC affect performance?
tRFC doesn’t scale with voltage for Micron. The main way to bridge the performance gap is to raise tREFI, which you cannot do on AMD. The performance gains from raising tREFI are significantly higher than lowering tRFC for Micron.
Does tRFC matter?
However, in real-world scenarios, the tRFC value has very little impact on most applications. Short of benchmarking, a low tRFC is less important than the main timings talked about earlier. This statement that tRFC doesn’t matter is only partly true and we can discuss this in the conclusion.
How do you overclock RAM timings?
To overclock your PC RAM using the XMP method, follow these steps:
- Install and open CPU-Z on your PC.
- Note down the DRAM frequency and timings along with timing tables from the SPD tab.
- Restart your PC and enter BIOS mode.
- Once entered into BIOS, head over to the AI Tweaker / Extreme Tweaker / D.O.C.P.
Is all laptop RAM the same?
First, note that laptop memory and desktop memory are different and not interchangeable! The same goes for server memory. RAM upgrades are sold as modules, or sticks, of memory. Each module has a set capacity–most commonly you’ll find of 4 GB RAM, 8 GB RAM, and 16 GB RAM sticks.
Can you overclock RAM on a laptop?
Overclocking is often thought of in the context of a CPU or GPU, but you can also overclock RAM (random access memory) to achieve faster speeds. The speed of RAM, measured in MHz, refers to its data transfer rate. The faster the data transfer rate, the better the RAM’s performance.
