A vandal, or vandals, had deliberately severed the steel cable, baffling officials and the public. The gondola had been destroyed for the first time just 13 months earlier.

We are excited to announce that we will reopen to the public on June 11. The final milestone in the reopening process was the delivery of 25 cabins from the CWA factory in Switzerland. The cabins have recently arrived at the base and our team is preparing them to be installed on the gondola line.

In August 2019, lines at the Sea to Sky Gondola were deliberately cut for the first time, sending the attraction’s cable cars crashing to the ground. About 75 staff members were laid off as a result of the attraction being forced to close.

Yes, no problem. Ride is smooth & quick. over a year ago. It’s a smooth ride and there is no exclusion for pregnant women as far as I can tell.
Is the chief hard?
Hiking the Chief is a challenge. Graded as an intermediate hike, there are, on First and Second Peak, chains and ladders for some of the more technical parts of the trail to aid you in getting to the top. When it’s wet, the rock is slippery so keep that in mind, as drop-offs on the summits fall hundreds of feet.

The highway has to be one of the world’s most scenic drives. It’s easy to let this beauty distract you. The road makes many different changes in elevation, some with grades approaching 10%. Because of it’s placement on the side of a mountain, turns can sometimes be steep and sudden.
Can I ride a chairlift pregnant?
Yes it is pregnancy friendly. When I was there, a man had a problem getting on so they slowed the lift so he could get on. When you get off, there are workers to help you get off.
Do you need hiking shoes for the chief?
We ended up getting to the trail head in close to 3 hours! All in all, this was a great hike and the views at the top were spectacular, but it is definitely a grind. If you do decide to do this hike, make sure you’ve got hiking shoes and plenty of water and snacks.
