Is MDF architrave any good?
Alternatives like hard and softwoods offer a more premium option, but MDF continues to be the most popular material for skirting and architrave on the market. In addition to being more affordable, you can still achieve a high-quality finish to be proud of when opting for MDF skirting and architrave for your home.

Can you screw architrave?
Architrave, is nearly always fixed to the door lining, and therefore nails are really all that is required – lost-head or oval nails are ideal. You can use screws, but the size of a screw head tends to damage the rounded, ornate parts of the architrave moulding.
Do you have to glue architrave?
If you want to keep your head architrave in position, use about 3 lost head nails to fix the piece to the wall -this is optional! At the end of the day, a good grab adhesive can even replace nails.
Is MDF stronger than pine?

Should architrave be wider than skirting?
You’ll always need to choose the same thickness (or thicker) as your skirtings for your architraves. This is so the architraves don’t sit back from the skirting boards. If you’re using plinth blocks between the skirting and architrave, the architrave just needs to be thinner than the plinth block.
Can you nail MDF skirting?
carpenters will usually use grip fill or no more nails and just occasionally put a screw in to hold the skirting back tight until the grip fill/no more nails has set then remove the screw.
