Can you reuse XTOL?
Note: If you use XTOL Developer diluted 1:1, dilute it just before you use it, and discard it after processing one batch of film. Do not reuse or replenish this diluted solution.
How long does XTOL stock last?
Good shelf life (six months after mixing when stored in full bottles), with high resistance to oxidisation. Dilution at 1:1 for one-shot processing will provide slightly greater film speed, enhanced sharpness and shadow detail, and slightly more grain.
Is Xtol one-shot?
Xtol can either be used as a stock solution, or it can be diluted further with water for one-shot processing. You can dilute 1+1.
Can I reuse developer?
Black and White film developers are rarely if ever, used more than once. Because the film developer directly affects the image quality of the developed negatives, even the most economically-oriented film photographers are unlikely to reuse this product.
How long does XTOL powder last?
The unmixed powders, such as XTOL or D-76, in their original sealed packaging can be expected to last several years. However, with age does come increased risks of issues. If the powder remains as fine grains and pours smoothly, then that is a good sign that there were no issues in storage.
How many times can I reuse developer?
Most can process up to 8 rolls of film before the quality of the negatives begins to degrade. However, each person has a different tolerance to weakening developers, and some get as many as 16, or even 20 sets of negatives out of a single 8-film kit.
Can you reuse color developer?
Whenever reusing color developer, combine all used and unused color developer to make 1000ml of weakened developer solution then add 2% to the recommended development time for each 135/120 roll, 8×10 sheet and every four sheets of 4×5 previously processed.
How do you use D 76?
You simply combine 1 part D76 with 3 parts water to get a 1:3 dilution, or 5 parts water to get a 1:5 dilution. The total volume would be 300ml per roll of 135 film, 600ml per roll of 120.
Can developer be reused?
Because the film developer directly affects the image quality of the developed negatives, even the most economically-oriented film photographers are unlikely to reuse this product. That said, it is technically possible to reuse the film developer for multiple rolls, and it’s something I’ve done in the past.
Can I use hair dye that was mixed yesterday?
Mixed hair dye must be used within 1 hour. Mixed hair dye is dangerous to store, has no shelf life, and can’t be used at a later date.
How do you store XTOL?
I’ve had good luck keeping it in an empty 5L box wine bladder. Most have a valve that pops out when the wine’s gone. Rinse well, dry and put the bladder back in the box and fill with the mixed Xtol. This storage method has also worked well with LPD.
Can Kodak D-76 be reused?
At stock concentration, D76 can be reused. If diluted at 1:1, 1:3 or 1:5, it is cannot be reused. The general rule is that you add 10% to the development time per reuse. This can technically go on until the shelf life of 6 months runs out.
Should I dilute D76?
Kodak recommends using D-76 as a full-strength stock solution. But there is no reason to use it undiluted. For greater sharpness, but with a slight increase of grain, a 1+1 dilution is typically used, which is also recommended by Kodak.
Can I reuse film developer?
Can film be developed after 15 years?
Yes. Old film doesn’t go bad all at once – colors shift, contrast fades away, and fog builds up. Old film (~10+ years past the process date) will have faded, skewing towards magenta.
