What is DH casing Maxxis?
Maxxis’s DH Casing tires are made to meet the demands of the roughest conditions out there and have proven to be effective time and time again. The DH Casing uses a reinforced dual-ply 60TPI sidewall, a butyl insert, and a wire bead to create one of the stiffest and toughest tires offered by Maxxis.
Whats the difference between Maxxis DHR and DHF?
They’re almost the same tire. The dhF is for the front and the dhR is for the rear. But most people run the DHFs front and rear. DHR is for the rear and DHF is (supposedly) for the front, but the DHF doesn’t have a specific tread pattern and is lighter than the DHR (just as/more grippy too) so people run dual DHF’s.
What does WT mean on Maxxis tires?
Wide Trail tire
By running wide rims with a matching Wide Trail tire, riders can run lower tire pressures, which improves traction and comfort while decreasing rolling resistance. Now that the trend toward wider rims has reached cross country bikes, Maxxis is offering new Wide Trail (WT) specs of the Aspen and Rekon Race.
Are Maxxis DH casing tubeless?
Tubeless ready also means that the casing is approved for use with liquid sealants. Initially, the tires will only be available in 27.5″ diameters, with the potential for other wheel sizes to be added in the future. 2.6″ versions of both the DHF (left) and DHR II are on the way.
Can I use a Maxxis DHF on the rear?
Though the Maxxis Minion DHF is intended to be run on the front of a bike, it’s a well-rounded tire that is still plenty effective on the rear so long as you aren’t hoping to make it up steep, loose climbs.
Are wider tires better for MTB?
Consider wider tires: Though heavier, wider tires offer better traction (a plus for sand) for a more confident feel. They also accept more air volume to absorb bumps. You can go with a wider tire on a current rim or get wider rims to accommodate even wider tires.
What does DD mean on Maxxis tire?
DoubleDown
“DoubleDown (DD) is the next step in the evolution of the dual-ply tyre casing for enduro and downhill racing. Two 120 TPI casing layers reinforced with a butyl insert provide the rider with the support and protection of a MTB tyre, but in a lighter package.”
What is Exoplus?
EXO+ is essentially an upgraded version of the EXO casing, with the only negatives being slight increases in weight and price. Positive features include increased puncture protection and sidewall durability, with a resistance to pinch flats by 28%.

The Maxxis Minion DHF is a household name in the world of mountain biking. It’s been seen on many a podium yet it’s brilliantly versatile for all kinds of trail and descending use. At its greatest in the dry, it’s still excellent in the wet and a predictable, capable performer right up until you’re axle deep in mud.
Can you put a Minion DHR on the front?
DHR2 is completely fine as a front tire. Faster rolling than DHF but does not have the same braking traction.
Is DHF good rear tire?
The DHF also makes an excellent option for a rear tire, with its balanced driving, braking, and cornering traction—but I personally prefer the Maxxis Aggressor ($47.99 on Competitive Cyclist).
