What does CSA B51 cover?
The 19th edition of CSA B51 is here, and in it are a number of key changes aimed at enhanced safety in the design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, and repair practices for boilers, pressure vessels, fittings, and piping.
What is CRN for fittings?
Canadian Registration Numbers (CRNs) are issued by authorized safety authorities in each province/territory for boilers, pressure vessels, and fittings that operate at 15 psig (1 barg) or more.
When would you use a CRN?
Receiving a CRN is required before fabricating a pressure vessel, boiler, pressure piping, or fitting. During a site inspection or audit if equipment is found without proper registration, and cannot be registered as built, then it has to be replaced.
What is a code adoption document?
This Code Adoption Document establishes essential requirements and minimum standards for the: design; fabrication; installation; repair; alteration; inspection; testing; operation; and use of boilers, pressure vessels, fittings and piping.
Do gaskets need CRN?
Do I need a CRN for bolting or gaskets? No. Bolting and/or gasket information may be required by the connection manufacturer to calculation their design for CRN registration. For example, M & Y values for gaskets or allowable strengths for bolting material.
Does pipe require a CRN?
Note that pipe does not carry a CRN because it is calculated to code rules. Although elbows and tees are calculated, they need CRNs – the CRN proves that the B16. 9 fittings can be calculated as pipe.
