What is a pass in Riam?
All graded exams are marked out of 100. The pass mark is 60–69, pass with Merit 70–79, pass with Honours 80–89, and pass with Distinction 90+.
What is a distinction in piano?
Practical Grade Piano exams consist of three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. You need 100 marks to achieve Pass, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction.

What is a distinction grade in music?

How long does it take to get riam exam results?
We ask that all appeals are received by RIAM as soon as possible, and no later than 21 days after the candidate result sheet(s) have been received.
Is Grade 8 piano a diploma?
Although attaining Grade 8 piano is certainly a fantastic achievement, its status as a professional qualification is definitely less certain. For instance, unlike the four diplomas that follow Grade 8, you don’t gain letters after your name. Each carry professional recognition, as well as letters.
Can you teach piano with Grade 5?
You don’t technically need any qualifications to teach piano as it’s not a regulated profession. However I would say the generally accepted minimum is to have at least a Grade 8 standard of performance, not necessarily a Grade 8 exam certificate but to be able to play at that level.

Is ABRSM Grade 8 piano hard? If you have passed – or play to – Grade 7 piano, the ABRSM suggest that you will need 320 hours of practise by the time you start Grade 8 to the time you take the Grade 8 exam. They also suggest that you will need 54 hours of lessons from the start to end of Grade 8.
