Once a brewery reaches 20,000 barrels of production, it can no longer sell any off-sale product from its brewery. This is the cap we ARE advocating to change, which requires a change to state law and can only be accomplished through the MN legislature. The legislative session begins in January 2020.

Why is Castle Danger called Castle Danger?
Castle Danger got its name from the dangerous reef that runs between two sets of cliffs, ending at Gooseberry River. Before Highway 61 came in the 1920’s, all traffic was by boat. Ship captains would know to stay well back from the shore between the two cliffs, or “castles,” because of the dangerous reef.

Come October 1, 2019 Castle Danger Brewery will no longer be able to sell growlers of any size from our taproom in Two Harbors. Not only is this a blow to our culture and history (think of grabbing a growler on your way up the North Shore) but this effects our staffing as a small business.

Traditionally, it’s actually more closely related to a lager –yes, even with “ale” in the name. The word “cream” is simply marketing jargon, possibly referring to the beer’s silky taste or richness. Taste-wise, this style is almost like a plumper Kölsch, sometimes using corn adjuncts to create a smooth mouthfeel.
