Beta (2nd grade): multi-digit adding and subtracting. Gamma (3rd grade): multiplication. Delta (4th grade): division. Epsilon (5th grade): fractions.

Begin at any number and count to 100. Write any number from 0 to 99. Recall addition and subtraction facts from memory. Use place value to identify the digits that represent units, tens, and hundreds.

Typically, students do one lesson per week and spend 10–35 minutes on the lower levels (Primer through Zeta) daily and up to 45 minutes daily on the upper levels (Pre-Algebra through Calculus). Again, since mastery is the goal, go at your own pace—these are just guidelines.

Math U See is a “Mastery Based” method. This means that a child doesn’t move on until they have mastered a skill. Since Math builds one skill on the previous skill, this is important. Another important aspect of Math U See that I love is that it’s also cumulative.

Our curriculum has 13 levels, extending from kindergarten through calculus. While each level concentrates on a specific set of skills, other math concepts are introduced where appropriate. Each level continuously reviews and integrates topics and concepts presented in previous levels to prepare a solid foundation.
Is Math-U-See teacher intensive?
This program is super easy to use. I work full time, which means our family prefers programs that are less teacher intensive. This program is perfect for our needs. Over the weekend, I read the textbook to see what Bug will be doing, and how the blocks are used for the lesson.
