What is a webelo 2?
The Webelos Scout program is a two-year transition program between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. The boy becomes a Webelos Scout upon graduation from the Bear program in the spring of third grade. He has all summer to get started on Webelos activities.

Webelos Rank Added In 1941, the Webelos rank was added. It was for a Cub who had completed his Lion badge and had also completed certain requirements for Tenderfoot, the first rank in Boy Scouts. The Webelos badge at that time looked like the Arrow of Light badge we use today.

Why are they called Webelos?
Webelos was also a portmanteau meaning Wolf, Bear, Lion, Scout; the name was later given a backronym of “WE’ll BE LOyal Scouts”. The initial rank structure was Wolf, Bear and Lion, with ages of 9, 10 and 11. Dens of six to eight Cubs were entirely led by a Scout holding the position of den chief.
