What is XLPE insulation material?
XLPE or Cross-linked polyethylene is a thermoset insulation material. Crosslinking polymers is a process which changes the molecular structure of the polymer chains so that they are more tightly bound together and this crosslinking is done either by chemical means or physical means.
Where is XLPE cable used?
Cross-linked polyethylene, which is commonly abbreviated PEX, XPE, or XLPE, is a form of polyethylene with cross-links. It is used chiefly in building services pipework systems, hydronic radiant heating and cooling systems, domestic water piping, and insulation for high tension (high voltage) electrical cables.
How do you make compound XLPE?
There are two competitive processes for compounding of XLPE: Soaking of Dicumyl Peroxide in molten stage on Clean filtered LDPE. Direct injection of DCP and AO in molten LDPE followed by screening before granulation.
What is extruded XLPE?
Extruded cables are insulated using cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). With improvements in material science, XLPE has achieved a high dielectric strength, low dielectric constant, high insulation resistance and good mechanical properties, making it an excellent insulation medium for underground power transmission.
What is Sioplas technology?
In the Sioplas process, Polyethylene is first grafted in the presence of a mixture of Vinylsilane and peroxide to make a crosslinkable polyethylene. The material can be either processed directly or stored in dry conditions for up to several months.
Is XLPE cable double insulated?
They are XLPE insulated with a semi conductive layer and copper wire screen, various sheath options are available including PVC only or HDPE/PVC.
Can XLPE cable be buried?
Excellent heat, ozone, oil and chemical resistance. Resistant to tear and abrasion. Suitable for direct burial.
What is curing of cable?
A curing system for extruded insulation that surrounds a conductor of a high-voltage electric cable including in combination a heat booster into which an insulated cable passes as it comes from an extrusion die, the heat booster including means for heating the insulation from the inside by highly heating the conductor …
Is XLPE insulation water resistant?
In order to prevent the penetration of moisture and also to extend the duration of life, the XLPE insulated medium voltage cables are designed with longitudinally waterproof shielding including an additional swell tape and PE outer jacket.
Is XLPE cable flexible?
Application: Flexible single core cables, low smoke zero halogen, low toxic and corrosive emission, flame retardant; Suitble for mains. Independently tested and certified to IEC 60332-3 and BS6387.
Is XLPE cable Armoured cable?
Eland Cables has an extensive portfolio of medium voltage cable including armoured cable manufactured to British Standard BS6622 and BS7835. These MV armoured cables are BASEC approved with single core AWA cable and multicore SWA cable available with both PVC and LSZH sheathing.
Is code for XLPE cable?
IS-7098, 1998
a. IS-7098, 1998 (Part-I) : Cross linked polyethylene insulated PVC sheathed cables for working voltages upto 1100V.
What is cable specification?
Cable Specifications means the drawings and specifications regarding the Cable, the Cable Accessories, and related hardware and materials to be employed in the installation of the Cable.
