What does a kicksled look like?
The kicksled or spark is a small sled consisting of a chair mounted on a pair of flexible metal runners that extend backward to about twice the chair’s length. The sled is propelled by kicking (“sparka” or “sparke” in the Scandinavian languages) the ground by foot.
How do you steer a kicksled?
To steer the kicksled, you can simply shift your weight from side to side. For more advanced spark users, putting outward pressure on the left runner will turn the kicksled to the right, and pressure on the right will turn you to the left.

We are impartial, but we believe kicksledding is one of the easiest winter sports to take up. Here is how you kicksled: Going: Hold handlebar, place left foot on left runner’s footrest and use your right leg to kick and then glide. A good rule of thumb is to kick five times on one leg and then switch to the other leg.

There is a maximum weight limit of 350 lbs of passenger weight and no more than two adults or three children per sled. Above this weight a second team and sled must be used to accommodate your group, or you can “split” your tour (see our rates page for more information).
