What is RHS section?
The term RHS stands for Rectangular Hollow Section. RHS is the most prevalent term and is generally accepted for describing square hollow section as well, which is technically incorrect. The correct term for square tube is SHS which stands for Square Hollow Section.
What is CHS steel section?
Circular Hollow Section (CHS) steel tube is a hollow, structural steel length created with hot-rolled coils, welded together once in shape. Due to the uniform geometry of these sections, robust and lightweight characteristics, and relative affordability, CHS steel tube is a great option for a range of projects.
What is rectangular hollow section?
Rectangular hollow sections or rec tubes are cold formed and welded from either hot rolled, cold rolled, pre-galvanized or stainless steel. In order to form the rectangular steel section the appropriate mother tube, a round steel tube, has to be formed first.
What is box section?
Mild steel box section, also referred to as mild steel hollow section or ERW tube, comes in either square or rectangular box format and is used all over the globe for general fabrication and construction.
What is HSS column?
Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) columns are prevalent in many types of construction, especially in common cases such as low-rise retail buildings. In reality, HSS columns can be a great option for taller buildings as well with its aesthetically pleasing shape, simple framing connections and small footprint.
What size is box section?
Box section sizes Sizes start at 20mm x 20mm and go up to 100mm x 100mm. Levels of wall thickness range from approx 1.2mm to 5.0mm. The standard length of a stainless steel rectangular tube is around 6m, but you can use our Custom Cut page to choose your exact requirement.
What is UB section?
UC – universal column or UB – universal beam. Universal columns are the most often used sections for structural steel purposes. Unlike a universal beam, the UC’s width is roughly equal to their depth. For example, a 152 UC 23 is 152 mm wide and 152 mm deep and 152*89 UB 16 is 89mm wide and 152mm deep.
What is WF column?
wide-flange (WF) beam. An H-shaped beam with wider flanges than an I beam. A wide-flange section is almost square in cross section and is excellent for building columns.

What is a UC section?
Universal Columns (UC) are the most often used section for structural steel purposes. Due to their section shape, they are often called “I-sections” or “H-sections”. Unlike a universal beam, the UC’s width is roughly equal to its depth. For example, a 152 UC 23 is 152 mm wide and 152 mm deep.

Is box Section stronger than tube?
The answer is round tube has a higher resistance to both flex and torsional twisting than square for a given weight.
