Where is the diverter valve located Audi a4?
Your diverter valve is located on the exhaust manifold under the turbo. It is mounted with three T5 bolts; the top one is in a tight place, so you will want to use a small driver to get these out. Figure 2. From underneath the front end, you’ll find the diverter valve right next to the turbo charger.
Can you put a dump valve on a turbo diesel?
There have been instances where people have (with a lot of work) successfully put a dump valve on a diesel. However it isn’t simple to do and generally confers no real performance benefit. The chief reason is most diesels do not have a throttle plate or butterfly.
What does a turbo diverter valve do?
The diverter valve is usually located on the side of the turbocharger, it is a pressure release system which diverts unused pressure back into the system preventing compressor surge. By rerouting the pressure back to the compressor inlet, diverter valve keeps the compressor wheel moving and decreases turbo lag.
Does dump valve increase performance?
In aftermarket applications though, the main reasons for fitting a Dump Valve are to hold higher-than-standard boost levels, to give better throttle response (than a factory Dump Valve) by staying closed whenever it’s not venting, and of course to make noise!
What does a diverter valve do Audi?
As many of you know the purpose of the diverter valve is to vent excess boost when the throttle is closed (you lift off the accelerator or change gear). Without venting this excess pressure, the turbo experiences surge which is actually damaging to the turbo. You can hear this as a fluttering sound.
What happens if you unplug your diverter valve sensor?
Unplugging the connector will stop it working and cause the compressor stall. The ECU will also see it and store a fault, with the likelihood of impaired performance.
What are the symptoms of a faulty diverter valve?
Signs Your Diverter Valve is Faulty
- You have hot water, but cold radiators.
- You have no hot water unless you turn the heating on.
- Your hot tap water is lukewarm.
Can I fix a diverter valve myself?
We don’t recommend fixing the diverter valve yourself. If you think there’s a problem, you should call a qualified engineer to have a look at it.
