In most cases, USPS will ship a nuc BUT the nuc must be shipped via ground shipping. When the USPS denotes “ground shipping” that means a nuc could be delivered up to 2 weeks from the ship date. Semi-trucks do not offer air conditioning to keep your bees cool and that means more stress to your bees.
When can you buy bee nucs?
The best time to order bee nucs is late Winter or very early Spring. This is when bee suppliers begin to take orders. There are many more bee packages available for sale than nucs.

A nuc will cost from $100-$150 depending on the seller’s asking price. As with a package, orders are usually placed early in the year and the buyer is given a date when bees can be picked up.
Can I order bees online?
You have many online and mail-order sites to choose from. You can order package bees or nucs from most of these sources, but you should also check with your local beekeeping association since it is sometimes easier and less expensive to obtain your bees from local sources.
