What is Hoshii desu?
When what one desires requires a noun, such as a car or money, “hoshii (to want)” is used. The basic sentence structure is “someone) wa (something) ga hoshii desu.” Note that the object of the verb “to want” is marked with the particle “ga”, not “o”. Here are some sample sentences: Watashi wa kuruma ga hoshii desu.

Is ほしい (Hoshii) a verb or noun?
However, Verb (て-form) ほしい has a different meaning from the above which will be discussed in one of the future lessons. Just bear in mind that you cannot connect verb directly to ほしい (hoshii) unless you change it to て-form (te-form).
What does “Shizuka ni Nemutte Hoshii” mean?
Shizuka ni nemutte hoshii actually should translate to “I want you to sleep silently.” te-form plus hoshii is used when you want someone to do something – “I want you to ____.” We didn’t go over this in this lesson because we have not yet talked about te-form, but we will be doing a video on te-form soon!
