Typically, seats are woven with a variety of pliable materials. Those materials might be; strand cane, cane webbing, rattan reed, paper fibre rush, natural rush, ash, oak or hickory bark splint, Danish Modern cord, Oriental seagrass, and paracord, to name a few.

All rush texture may vary from order to order. For strand cane – soak the strands for 20 to 30 minutes in room temperature water. Soaking it for hours will discolor the cane and give it a gray appearance. For 5/32 fibre rush and smaller, just quickly dip it in water and shake off the excess.

The rattan webbing should be soaked in warm water for approximately 30 minutes before fitting. Soaking for longer period can weaken and darken the cane strands. Fit the webbing whilst wet. Allow the webbing to dry naturally, do not place near or in direct heat.

Most of them are quite easy to make. You will likely need some cane webbing, some glue or staples, and maybe some flat reed for the finishing touches.
